Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) is a simple, proven program we use with our puppies between 3–16 days old to gently expose them to mild stress through specific handling exercises. This early stimulation helps strengthen their nervous system, heart function, stress response, and adaptability later in life. At Odyssey Great Pyrenees, we use ENS to give our puppies the best start possible whether they’re destined to guard livestock, compete in the ring, or become beloved family companions.

We offer both limited and full AKC registration, depending on the purpose of the puppy and the experience and goals of the buyer. Limited registration is available for pet and working homes. Full registration is only granted to approved breeding or show homes that align with our ethics and commitment to responsible breeding.

Great Pyrenees is a large dog breed. Acceptable markings include gray, badger, redish brown, or tan - often appearing on the head, tail, or body and typcially not covering more than one-third of the dog's body: predominately white. Their eyes are a dark brown and their noses are a dark pigment. They were bred to be Guardian dogs protecting all kinds of live stock. With all of these traits, you can't go wrong with a Pyre!

Great Pyrenees are loyal, independent, and protective, but they are not a one-size-fits-all breed. They thrive in homes that understand their guardian instincts, appreciate their calm nature, and can handle their size, coat care, and strong will. If you’re looking for a gentle giant who’s devoted to their family or livestock, and you have the patience for training and space for them to roam, a Pyr may be a perfect fit.

Somewhat — but not in the same way as some other breeds. Pyrs are intelligent but independent thinkers, bred to make decisions on their own in the field. They may ignore commands they find unnecessary or repetitive. Consistent, positive reinforcement training, especially in the first year, is key. Early socialization is also essential to build a well-rounded adult dog.

Absolutely !! when raised and socialized properly, Great Pyrenees are exceptional with children, often taking on a gentle guardian role. They are typically good with other animals, especially when introduced early, including dogs, cats, and livestock. However, their protective instincts can cause them to be wary of strangers or new animals without proper introduction.

Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!! Barking is a natural and important behavior for this breed. Pyrs were bred to alert and deter predators, and they will bark to warn of anything they see as a threat, including unfamiliar people, animals, or even rustling leaves at night. This makes them excellent guardians, but not ideal for apartment living or noise-sensitive neighborhoods.

Their beautiful double coat requires regular maintenance. Weekly brushing helps control shedding and prevent matting, especially around the ears and hindquarters. During seasonal shedding (“blowouts”), more frequent brushing is needed. Baths every few months or during heavy shedding can help manage undercoat buildup and keep the skin healthy and beautiful.
